New schools win 2016 project of the year award

Willmott Dixon, a well trusted collaborator of Bailey Streetscene, has won Project of the Year and the Customer Heroes award by Birmingham LCO, for their work on the Whitehouse Primary School Project.

The Project was part of a £21 million regeneration scheme to build 3 new primary schools (Newton Leys, Fairfield and Whitehouse) in Milton Keynes. Whitehouse school was completed in time to accept the first pupils in September 2016, Fairfield and Newton Leys are set to be completed ready for September 2017. Whitehouse Primary School was created in collaboration with CORDE architects who are also working on Fairfield Primary school.

Bailey Streetscene were tasked with supplying canopiescycle compounds and removable bollards in addition to a selection of car park fold down posts and column protectors.

Peter Owen, managing director at Willmott Dixon, said: “The first three schools will deliver 2,000 additional primary places and by using the Scape Major Works framework, Milton Keynes will save time and cost which can instead be channelled into important areas such as front line services. We’ll also ensure local companies benefit as supporting the ‘local pound’ is a very important part of what we do.”

The Milton Keynes council is planning to create over 100,000 school places for the area in the future. With a £160 million investment programme. The three schools awarded to Willmott Dixon are just the beginning.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Peter Marland, said: “I’m delighted that this ambitious school development programme is progressing. We want to ensure all children living in Milton Keynes can access a good local school place and I am proud that our team are working collaboratively with Willmott Dixon to make that a reality. The Scape Major Works framework will also provide a further boost to the local economy through its commitment to offer apprenticeships, work experience and other opportunities to Milton Keynes residents.”

Willmott Dixon has a good history of creating schools for areas across the country. Being the UK’s biggest builder of new schools by delivering on over 100 new schools in the past few years.

Peter Owen, also said: “Demand for schools places across the country is outstripping supply and Milton Keynes is not unique in implementing a major school investment programme. We’ve delivered several programmes to revitalise schools across the country and will be deploying our know-how and skills in Milton Keynes.”
