Bailey Streetscene director takes The 3 Peaks Challenge to raise money for good cause

Bailey Streetscene’s Operations Director, John Fairbrother, has signed up for a gruelling physical endurance challenge this summer...

“I foolishly signed up to do the National 3 Peaks challenge at the end of the month - July 28th. I had planned to do it some 10 years ago when I was young, fit and healthy but the week before I ended up getting my pacemaker fitted, so as you can imagine was quite gutted to have missed out on the experience.”

So 10 years later, some of John’s old colleagues decided to do the challenge again, asking John if he would consider joining them. He

agreed with haste without realising that he is “nowhere near as fit as he would need to be” for the challenge.

Some facts about the challenge:

The National Three Peaks include.

  • Scafell Pike, the tallest mountain in England (978m)
  • Snowdon, the tallest mountain in Wales (1,085m)
  • Ben Nevis, the tallest mountain in Scotland (1,344m)

Entrants to the challenge have to reach all 3 summits (and return to the base of the third) within 24 hours.

Raising Money for a Good Cause

John has decided to combine the walk with an opportunity to raise money for a good cause that is close to his heart. John’s nephew Connor suffers with Autism and he has experienced first hand the difficulties his nephew and sister have had to overcome during Connor’s childhood. Subsequently, John has set up a justgiving page to raise funds directly for Rowan Park Teaching School where Connor attends. Rowan Park is an outstanding school that specialises in meeting the needs of pupils aged 3 to 19 years, with severe, complex, profound and multiple learning difficulties.

John explained... “I kept telling myself ‘How hard can it be?’ But everyone I spoke to had said ‘very’ hard.

So I thought as added inspiration and drive to ensure I complete the challenge and don’t flake out, I’ve decided to dedicate my efforts to raising money for Connor’s brilliant school. If I could add just a little bit of benefit to an organisation that helps children and families like him then what better cause could there be?”
